IPAM Implementatin Postponement:
Early Sunday morning, February 15, Gary Bennett, our IP Admin, was doing some final testing after all data were loaded. He found page refresh for basic users at 1-3 minutes. It appears to be due to the code that checks user permissions each time the user clicks on a MAC record or IP record request.
Bluecat software engineering will be releasing new code on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 that addresses this problem. Gary will install it as soon as he can after receiving the release, and the IPAM project team will commence testing at that time. If the problem is fixed, and if the IPAM project team does not uncover additonal serious issues, we will attempt to cut over to the new IPAM system on Sunday, March 22, 2009. We will change the cutover date from tentative to firm (or delayed again) no later than Friday, March 13, 2009.
Please continue to watch your email and this IPAM project web site for updates. We’ll do everything we can to keep you updated.

Overview / Background
The IPAM project is a cross organizational project including Shands IS, HealthNet and the HSC Information Security Office (HSC ISO.) The result of the project will touch every computer on our HealthNet network. It involves the replacement of our current Shands homegrown device registration, DHCP and DNS services. The replacement solution is Bluecat Networks, Inc. Adonis and Proteus products. Adonis is the DHCP service and Proteus is the IP management interface. This project is not just a system replacement. The project includes a process redesign of the device regististration life cycle.
Objectives
This project seeks to achieve the following key objectives:
- Manage public IP address space
- Establish an institutional respository containing the identification, support and security ownership for every device on the network
- Provide Units and HealthNet with more visibility regarding network device activity to improve support
- Distribute control of DHCP parameters to the HSC Units
- Establish network security zones to limit the surface area accessible from the Internet
- Improve
information security incident response and handling
