UF Health Science Center Wireless Access
As of August 8, 2008, the healthnet wireless network has been decommissioned/ retired. Wireless users with personally owned laptops will need to connect to hnet-public, and users with UF-owned laptops/devices will need to contact their Unit ISM to use hnet-secure.
The wireless network is offered as a "best effort" level-of-service and should not be considered equivalent to the wired-based network. The wireless network does not guarantee level, availability, priority, or speed of service. Therefore, use of the wireless network for critical applications is not recommended.
hnet-public
(Not encrypted; for personally owned / self-managed devices)
The hnet-public wireless network requires authentication via a valid GatorLink login account. All traffic is unencrypted (i.e. sent in cleartext) and susceptible to evesdropping. Users transmitting sensitive or private information are instructed to secure their wireless use with the UF virtual private network (VPN). Additionally, users are required to have anti-virus software, the latest security patches, and Windows automatic updates turned on. All Windows-based laptops accessing the wireless network will undergo the secure posture assessment (i.e. a security requirements scan) as a proactive measure to protect the network and its users. Laptops that fail the scan will be redirected to a Web site where the user can learn how to resolve their laptop security issues.

hnet-secure
(Encrypted - 802.1X; For UF owned and/or UF managed devices only)
The hnet-secure wireless network requires 802.1X-based authentication with a configured "supplicant." All traffic is strongly encrypted (using WPA2-Enterprise protocol) over the air. Granted access and technical setup must be provisioned by IT staff to use hnet-secure. Please contact your Unit ISM.
